BHARATANATYAM

Bharatanatyam is one of the most divine dance forms of India, originated in Tamil Nadu. The term Bharatanatyam is considered to be derived from the four syllables, BHAVA (expression), RAGA (music), THALA (rhythm) and NATYAM (dramatic art).

Bharatanatyam’s statues pose, geometric lines, detailed hand and eye movements and complex foot rhythms around a deeply spiritual core. The rhythmic use of time in the music and steps is a sacred language that has survived life’s changes through millennia.

By learning this, you pass in a life of discipline, devotion and passion. Lord Nataraja, the lord of dance himself is the source of inspiration for Bharatanatyam. Follow Bharatanatyam and see the positive difference in you!

MOHINIYATTAM

Mohiniyattam originated from the temples of Kerala. It is an exquisite feminine style characterised by extremely soft, graceful and gentle movements ("lasya") which can be likened to the swaying of leaves in the gentle breeze or the movement of waves. The emphasis is on "abhinaya" or facial expressions.

Mohiniyattam is deeply indebted to the constructive contributions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal and Sri Vallathol (a great poet and founder of Kerala Kalamandalam).

The language used in the lyrics is a pleasant mixture of Malayalam and Sanskrit, known as Manipravalam.

OTTANTHULLAL

Ottanthullal is a solo performing art conducted during the festivals. It is a dance with a lot of humorous elements in it along with the poetic performance, accompanied by mridangam (a barrel-shaped double-headed drum) or an idakka (drum and cymbal).

It's incidental wit and humour makes this art form more popular among the common man.
